Year One: Mrs Richmond 2022 - 2023

Hello and welcome to our class page.

I am Miss Richmond and I am the Year 1 teacher. 

We have PE days on Monday and Thursday, please ensure PE kits are in school. We will send them home at the end of each half term for them to be washed.

In KS1 we have three different books that are sent home.

Reading for Pleasure books – these are sent home on Monday and returned on Friday. These are books that are to be shared as a family, at bed time, before tea or just snuggled up on the sofa.

RWI books – these are sent home on Monday and returned on Friday. These are phonetically plausible books that are chosen specific in line with your child’s phonic knowledge.

Phonetically decodable or banded reading books – these are changed every Tuesday and Friday. Don’t worry about reading a full book each day, reading a couple of pages each day will be great. Please just make a note of which page you have read up to. 

In English we will be looking at Traditional Tales such as Jack and the Beanstalk, Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Three Little Pigs. 

In Maths we will be looking at addition and subtraction strategies and numbers up to 30. 

In Science we will be focusing on seasons and the weather. 

In History we will be focusing on the local history of Rainhill and how it has changed from 1800s to present day.

In Geography we will be learning about the contrast of the United Kingdom to Canada.

In RE we will be learning about Hinduism.

In Music we will be  learning the song ‘Your Imagination’.

In PSHE we will be thinking about keeping safe and families and friendships.  

In addition to reading daily, we have Rainbow Challenges for KS1. These are challenges set for each half term. Please take pictures of you completing each activity and add it onto School Spider (Rainbow Challenges Blue). I can't wait to see the photos of what you have been getting up to! If you have completed most of these challenges before the end of term, you will earn your Blue Rainbow Certificate.
