Year 5: Miss Owen 2023 - 2024

Miss Owen

Welcome back to the final term in year 5. I can't believe how quick it has gone and I know some of the children have said the same, but as they say- time flies when you're having fun!

Things that are coming up this term.

In maths, we start by finishing off our fractions, decimals and percentages unit and looking more at equivalents. After this we move onto a lovely unit of transformations of shapes. Following this we look at measure and converting different units.  5 a day and maths meetings will continue so we can build on our previous knowledge learnt from when we started year 5. These will help improve furthur our speed and accuracy for calculations.

In English we begin with a lovely video unit called 'The Piano by Adrian Gibbons. Lots of symbolism throughout and it may even ,ake some of us cry a little. After this we look at another lovely book called 'Voices in the Park' Everytime we look at this book we will spot different elements through the fabulous illustrations and understand the perspective of 4 very different characters. All our remaining English texts are amazing and I'm sure you will enjoy them just as much as me.

You have all been waiting for this text since I introduced it back in our transition session- Room 13! Guided Reading will begin with this and I'm sure you will love listening and reading it- It'll keep you hooked till the end! After this we look at a well known poem called IF by Rudyard Kipling and then move on to Toms Midnight Garden.

In History we continue our topic of the Local area by finishing our information books about Prescot and starting to look at how railways were invented and why, before finsihing with Liverpool. Geography will be looking at North America and completing some fieldwork skills. Science is Light and then we will have time to do lots of practical experiements as move towards the end of the year.

PE days will be Monday and Friday. Jogging pants can be worn on a Friday incase we go outside.

Spellings have all been uploaded onto the webiste for the term along with the homework questions for this half term

I'm looking forward to our final term with you all continuing your hard work!
