Year 2 - Miss Patino & Mrs Tarbuck 2026 - 2027
Miss Patino
Y2 teacher KS1 manager
Welcome to Y2!
I am Miss Patino and this year will be teaching Year 2. Mrs Tarbuck will be teaching Year 2 on Thursday afternoons and Friday. Miss Johnson will also be teaching in Year 2 on Wednesdays.
Across KS1 we will have Miss Bennett, Miss Billing, Miss Dubrovska and Mrs Dandy who are all fabulous members of our support staff.
During this half term, in Maths we will be exploring numbers within 100, addition and subtraction strategies, as well as length and graphs.
In English we will be reading a range of texts such as Owl Babies, Owl and the Pussycat and Fly By Night. We will also be writing our own diary entries and exploring the text ‘Look Up’.
In History we will be learning about chronology and Rainhill.
In Geography, we will be learning all about the continents and starting our topic about Africa; specifically, Kenya.
In Science we will be exploring the topic ‘Animals including humans’, particularly body parts, structure of animals and diets.
During our Music sessions, we will be learning new songs and practicing on the glockenspiels.
In Computing we will be looking at IT in our world and how to use it safely.
In RE we be learning about the religion of Christianity. During our PSHE sessions we will continue with ‘My Happy Mind’.
This half term we will have two weeks focusing on Art and DT. We will be studying the work of Barbara Hepworth and making our own clay models. We will also be making our own vehicles.
PE this half term will be on Wednesdays and Fridays. Please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit on these days. CHILDREN SHOULD NOW COME INTO SCHOOL IN FULL PE KIT ON THOSE DAYS.
In KS1 we have three different books that are sent home.
Reading for Pleasure books – these are sent home on Monday and returned on Friday. These are books that are to be shared as a family, at bed time, before tea or just snuggled up on the sofa.
RWI books – these are sent home on Monday and returned on Friday. These are phonetically plausible books that are chosen specific in line with your child’s phonic knowledge. Please just make a note of which page you have read up to on pageticker.
Phonetically decodable or banded reading books – these are changed every Tuesday and Friday. Don’t worry about reading a full book each day, reading a couple of pages each day will be great.
Please remember to read with your child as often as possible - ideally three times a week.
In addition to reading daily, we have Rainbow Challenges for KS1. These are challenges set for each half term. The RED Rainbow Challenge has six different activities for you to complete before the end of the school half term. You can take pictures of you completing each activity and add it onto School Spider (Rainbow Challenges RED autumn 1) or you can simply write a note in your child's planner to say which challenge they have completed. If you have completed four or more of these challenges before the end of autumn 1, you will earn your RED Rainbow Certificate.
If you ever have any concerns or want to discuss something, please email the school office, send a message via the school office or speak to me on the door at the end of the day.
We are so excited to help your children to continue to grow and flourish in the first half term of this school year!
