Year 5 - Mrs Wallace 2025 - 2026

Mrs Speed

Hello,

I hope you all had a lovely half term. It has been wonderful welcoming everyone back and hearing about their holidays.

This half term, we will continue building the children’s independence and confidence in year 5. I am encouraging them to take responsibility for their learning by ensuring they bring their reading books and planners to school each day and stay organised. I am already seeing fantastic effort from the class.

Supporting the class alongside me will be Mrs. Christian and Miss Donnellan, who work closely with the children throughout the week. We will also be supported by Mrs. Gargan, who will be covering PPA time.

In English, we will be continuing with our exciting class text, Kai and the Monkey King. The children have really enjoyed this adventure so far and I am looking forward to seeing their creativity shine through in their writing as the story develops. In Guided reading, we will explore a range of engaging text, including Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This will help develop the children’s reading skills, vocabulary and understanding of different types of literature. In Math’s, we will continue strengthening our knowledge of fractions, decimals and percentages. The children have shown great perseverance in math’s, and it has been lovely to see their confidence grow. Our new Geography topic will focus on North America, where children will learn about different locations, develop their map skills and explore geographical features through practical activities.

This half term, Year 5 will also be preparing for our class assembly. It will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate their hard work, and we would love for parents and families to attend and support them.

I am looking forward to another positive and productive half term with year 5.  Thank you for your continued support, it makes such a difference to the children’s learning.
