Mrs Brougham

Hello I am Mrs. Brougham and welcome to Year 2's class page.

We are all so happy to be back at school after our half term break and are ready to work hard.  Our class is supported by Miss Bennett, Mrs Dandy and Mrs. McTomney. This is such an exciting term with all our Christmas preparations.

In Maths we will completing our work on addition and subtraction of two digit numbers and exploring word problems before moving on to multiplicaion and division. In our maths meetings we focus on; telling the time, ordinal numbers, days of the week, months of the year, patterns, shapes, direction and statistics.

In English we will be completing our first unit of work about 'Look Up' and will be writing diaries and then we will be using 'The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark' to inspire our writing. We will also be reading many different fictional stories in our guided reading work as well as non-fiction.

In History, we will be exploring Neil Armstrong and space travel. In Geography, we will be comparing Blackpool to our local area..Our topic in science this half term is animals including humans. In Music, we will be practising explore beat, rhythm and tempo. In Computing, we will be programming, using scratch Jr.  In RE, we will be exploring Christianity and in PSHE, we will be looking at the importance keeping healthy.

PE this half term will be on Wednesday and Thursday. CHILDREN SHOULD NOW COME INTO SCHOOL IN FULL PE KIT ON THOSE DAYS.

In KS1 we have three different books that are sent home.

Reading for Pleasure books – these are sent home on Monday and returned on Friday. These are books that are to be shared as a family, at bed time, before tea or just snuggled up on the sofa.

RWI books – these are sent home on Monday and returned on Friday. These are phonetically plausible books that are chosen specific in line with your child’s phonic knowledge. Once your child has completed the programme they will no longer bring one of these books home.

Phonetically decodable or banded reading books – these are changed every Tuesday and Friday. Don’t worry about reading a full book each day, reading a couple of pages each day will be great. Please just make a note of which page you have read up to.

Please remember to read with your child as often as possible. School planners are checked daily for any messages.

In addition to reading daily, we have Rainbow Challenges for KS1. These are challenges set for each half term. The ORANGE Rainbow Challenge has six different activities for you to complete before Christmas. Please take pictures of you completing each activity or of the completed activities and add it onto School Spider (Rainbow Challenges ORANGE autumn 2). If you have completed most of these challenges before half term, you will earn your ORANGERainbow Certificate.

If you ever have any concerns or want to discuss something, please make a note in your child’s planner that you would like to speak to me or email the school office and I will get back to you ASAP.
