Year 4: Miss Thomas 2024 - 2025
Miss Thomas
Happy new year to you all! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and enjoyed time to relax with your family and friends over the festive period. I'm so excited to continue our learning journey this year in our new school building!
PE will be on a Thursday and Friday this half term so please ensure PE kits are in for those days. We will keep the kits in school and send home for washing at the end of the half term.
There will be two sets of reading books this year, a colour banded book and a reading for pleasure book. These will be changed once a week when planners have been signed.
In Key Stage Two homework will be set as a grid, with the children expected to complete one question a week from the grid. We also expect children to have read 3 times a week, practiced TT Rockstars and their spellings. Reading at home will be monitored weekly.
Spellings will be sent home on Mondays and there will be an informal spelling test in class on Fridays.
This half term we will continue our learning journey looking at the following topics in each subject:
In English we will conitnue to read Leon and the place between by Grahame Baker-Smith and then move onto Escape from Pompeii by Christina Balit.
In Guided Reading we will be reading the BFG and then a poem 'From a Railway Carriage'.
In Maths we will move onto representing data using pictograms, bar charts and then continue to develop our multiplication and division strategies further. It will benefit the children further to continue to practise these at home.
In History we will continue learning about our new topic the Romans and in Geography we will be learning all about the geograpy of the UK, comparing Liverpool and Snowdonia and discussing the similarities and differences between rural and urban locations.
In Science we will be exploring rocks.
We will of course be practicing our creative skills in our music lessons and brushing up on our French!
Let's keep working hard in year 4 and enjoy our learning journey together!
