Year 3 - Miss Patino 2025 - 2026

Miss Patino

Y2 teacher KS1 manager

Hello, and welcome to Year 3!

I'm Miss Patino, and I'm so glad to be back with our wonderful Year 3 class. This half term, we will be supported by Mrs Rose, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Mrs Tarbuck will also be in class.

I have already been blown away by the children's progress since Year 2, and I can't wait for a fun-packed Year 3 summer term.

PE this half term will be on Mondays and Wednesdays, so please ensure that the children wear their PE kit to school on these days. The children should come in a plain black cotton tracksuit, with no visible branding or logos. No leggings or cycling shorts, please. Children may also wear black trainers, as these are more supportive than black pumps. They should wear their PE T-shirt underneath their tracksuit, as they may get warm during the lesson.

This term, each child will be given a colour-banded reading book, as well as a reading-for-pleasure book to keep in school. These will be changed on Mondays and Fridays.

In Key Stage 2, homework will be set as a grid (attached below), with children expected to complete one task per week. Homework could include creating a poster, a fact file, a labelled drawing, research, or another creative way of responding to the task.

We also expect children to read three times a week and practise their weekly spellings (attached below). In addition, children have a Times Tables Rock Stars login in their planners, which they can use to practise their assigned times tables.

Spellings will be sent home on Mondays and posted on our class page, and there will be an informal spelling test in class on Fridays.

We have lots of exciting learning planned for this half term:

In English, we will be exploring a range of writing opportunities based on our new wordless adventure story, Journey.

In Guided Reading, we will be reading both fiction and non-fiction texts.

In Maths, we will be focusing on fractions, the four operations, time, and graphs.

In History, we will continue our topic on Ancient Greece.

In Geography, we will be continuing to learn about Iceland.

In Science, we will be studying light, including what it is, what darkness is, why we have shadows, and conducting our own investigations and observations.

We will continue to learn about ourselves during our Happy Minds sessions.

We will also continue to develop our creative skills in music and build our language skills in French.
