Year 3 - Miss Thomas 2026 - 2027

Miss Thomas

Hello, and welcome to Year 3!

I'm Miss Thomas, and I'm so excited to begin our new year with my wonderful Year 3 class. This half term, we will be supported by Mrs Christian, and every other week, Mrs Johnson will be in our class on Mondays.

I have loved our amazing start to the year so far, with such wonderful, enthusiastic children in my class who are eager to learn.

PE this half term will be on Mondays and Wednesdays, so please ensure that the children wear their PE kit to school on these days. The children should come in a plain black cotton tracksuit, with no visible branding or logos. No leggings or cycling shorts, please. Children may also wear black trainers, as these are more supportive than black pumps. They should wear their PE T-shirt underneath their tracksuit, as they may get warm during the lesson.

This term, each child will be given a colour-banded reading book, as well as a reading-for-pleasure book to keep in school. These will be changed on Mondays and Fridays.  We will use page ticker to track when the children have read at home, so please remember to update us on the app.

In Key Stage 2, homework will be set as a grid (attached below), with children expected to complete one task per week. Homework could include creating a poster, a fact file, a labelled drawing, research, or another creative way of responding to the task.

We also expect children to read three times a week and practise their weekly spellings (attached below). In addition, children have a Times Tables Rock Stars login, which they can use to practise their assigned times tables.

Spellings will be sent home on Mondays and posted on our class page, and there will be an informal spelling test in class on Fridays.

We have lots of exciting learning planned for this half term:

In English, we will be exploring a range of writing opportunities based on our new book, Seal Surfer.

In Guided Reading, we will be reading both fiction and non-fiction texts.  Our fiction text is The Twits, which the children have loved!

In Maths, we will be focusing on place value, addition and subtraction and reviewing our 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

In History, we will begin to explore our new topic, Ancient Romans

In Geography, we will learn about Snowdonia

In Science, we will be studying humans and living things, and conducting our own investigations and observations.

We will continue to learn about ourselves during our Happy Minds sessions.

We will also begin to develop our creative skills in music and build our language skills in French.
