Year 4 - Mrs Gargan & Miss Austin 2026 - 2027

Hello, and Welcome to Year 4. 

We are Mrs Gargan and Miss Austin. Miss Austin will teach each Monday and Mrs Gargan will teach the rest of the week.

Mrs Rose and Miss Brennan are our wonderful learning support assistants. 

Year 4 Autumn Term 

We are so excited to begin a brand-new half term together! This term is full of fantastic opportunities to learn, have fun, and make great progress.

Reminders

PE this half term will be on a Monday and Friday please come to school in our school P.E kit. 

There will be two sets of reading books this year, a colour banded book and a reading for pleasure book. These will be changed once they are finished. Please record reading on PageTicker. 

Reading at home is very important, please read with your child as often as possible. 

Homework will be set as a grid, with the children expected to complete one question a week from this. We also expect children to have read 3 times a week, practised TT Rock stars and their spellings. Reading at home will be monitored weekly.

Spellings are on our class page and there will be an informal spelling test in class each Friday.

Children can bring in a healthy snack for break time or purchase toast for the term on the school app. 

No pencil cases or stationery from home are needed in school. Thank you. 

Here's what year four will be learning during the autumn term...

In English we will be reading 'Gorilla' by Anthony Browne.

During Guided Reading we will be reading 'Iron Man' by Ted Hughes. 

In Maths we will be learning all about place value with Mrs Gargan and graphs with Miss Austin. We will also be working on our times tables 

During History lessons we will be learning about the Anglo Saxons.  

Within Geography lessons we will be exploring Northern Italy. 

In Science we will be learning about living things and their habitats.

PE lessons this half term will be focusing on dance and games. 

We be developing our creative skills in our music lessons, where we will be learning to sing and play 'Mamma Mia' by Abba and improving our sense of rhythm; this will also link with our dance lessons in PE.

In French lessons we will be developing our language skills and learning the names of classroom items and useful greetings.  

We will also be having an exciting DT week this half term.
