Year One: Mrs Richmond 2022 - 2023

Hello and welcome to our class page.

I am Miss Richmond and I am the Year 1 teacher. 

We have PE days on Wednesday and Thursday, please ensure PE kits are in school. We will send them home at the end of each half term for them to be washed.

In KS1 we have three different books that are sent home.

Reading for Pleasure books – these are sent home on Monday and returned on Friday. These are books that are to be shared as a family, at bed time, before tea or just snuggled up on the sofa.

RWI books – these are sent home on Monday and returned on Friday. These are phonetically plausible books that are chosen specific in line with your child’s phonic knowledge.

Phonetically decodable or banded reading books – these are changed every Tuesday and Friday. Don’t worry about reading a full book each day, reading a couple of pages each day will be great. Please just make a note of which page you have read up to. 

In English we will be looking at Traditional Tales such as Zog by Julia Donaldson, Biscuit Bear by Mini Grey and Vegetable Glue by Susan Chandler.

In Science we will be focusing on plants.

In History we will be focusing on the local history of Rainhill and the Rainhill Trials.

In Geography we will be learning about the contrast of the United Kingdom to Canada.

In RE we will be learning about Christianty and the importance of the church.

In Music we will be looking at 'Reflect, Rewind and Replay' - focusing on the music we have learnt about this year.

In PSHE we will be thinking about money and work and growing and changing. 

In addition to reading daily, we have Rainbow Challenges for KS1. These are challenges set for each half term. Please take pictures of you completing each activity and add it onto School Spider (Rainbow Challenges Purple). I can't wait to see the photos of what you have been getting up to! If you have completed most of these challenges before the end of term, you will earn your Pruple Rainbow Certificate.
