Y2 teacher KS1 manager
Hello and welcome to our class page.
I am Miss Patino and this year will be teaching Year 2, as part of my role here at Longton Lane, I am lucky enough to look after all the children in KS1.
We will be supported by Mrs Dandy. Miss Bennett and Mrs Rose.
In Maths we will continue to explore addition and subtraction, using the facts we know to calculate up to 100, using concrete and pictures to help us. We will also be learning about multiplication and division. In our maths meetings; telling the time, ordinal numbers, days of the week, months of the year, patterns, shapes and direction.
We will be exploring many different texts in our English sessions including ‘The Owl Who was Afraid of the Dark', 'Silver' and 'Snow', just to name a few!
In History, we will be looking at toys from the past and compare them to toys of now.
In Geography, we will continue to learn about the seven continents and five oceans of the world. We will also continue to explore the continent of Africa, focussing on the country of DRC and the Congo Rainforest.
In Science, we will be exploring the topic of materials.
During our Music sessions, we will be practising explore beat, rhythm and tempo. In Computing we will be programming floor robots.
In RE we will be exploring Islam and creation beliefs. In PSHE, we will be looking at safe relationships and digital literacy.
During this half term, we will have an DT week, learning about cooking and nutrition.
PE this half term will be on Monday and Thursday, we will be focussing on gymnastics and dance. Please ensure your child has their full kit in school. Kits will then be sent home at the end of half term to be washed.
In KS1 we have three different books that are sent home.
Reading for Pleasure books – these are sent home on Monday and returned on Friday. These are books that are to be shared as a family, at bed time, before tea or just snuggled up on the sofa.
RWI books – these are sent home on Monday and returned on Friday. These are phonetically plausible books that are chosen specific in line with your child’s phonic knowledge. Once your child has completed the programme they will no longer bring one of these books home.
Phonetically decodable or banded reading books – these are changed every Tuesday and Friday. Don’t worry about reading a full book each day, reading a couple of pages each day will be great. Please just make a note of which page you have read up to.
Please remember to read with your child as often as possible. School planners are checked daily for any messages.
In addition to reading daily, we have Rainbow Challenges for KS1. These are challenges set for each half term. The third YELLOW Rainbow Challenge has six different activities for you to complete before February half term. Please take pictures of you completing each activity or of the completed activities and add it onto School Spider (Rainbow Challenges Yellow Spring 1). If you have completed most of these challenges before half term, you will earn your Yellow Rainbow Certificate.
If you ever have any concerns or want to discuss something, please make a note in your child’s planner that you would like to speak to me or email the school office and I will get back to you ASAP.
