Miss Walker

Hello I am Miss Walker and welcome Year 2's class page.

We are having a great time in Year 2 - everybody is working very hard and we can see that hard work paying off!

In Year 2 we are still supported by Miss Bennett, Mrs Dandy and Mrs Rose.

In Maths we will continue to explore all four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) and completing our work about fractions. We will then return to addition and subtraction of two digit numbers, including crossing the boundaries of 10s. In our maths meetings we focus on; telling the time, ordinal numbers, days of the week, months of the year, patterns, shapes, direction and statistics.

In English we will be exploring our next unit of work about 'The Last Wolf' and will be writing letters. We will also be reading many different fictional stories in our guided reading work as well as non-fiction.

In History, we will be exploring hospitals from the past and present.

In Geography, we will be learning about Blackpool, looking at the human and physical features, making comparisons to Rainhill.

In Science, we will be exploring plants, focusing on their functions and what they need to survive.

In Music, we will be practising explore beat, rhythm and tempo.

In Computing, we will be programming, using scratch Jr.

In RE, we will be exploring Judadism, focusing on the 10 commandments.

In PSHE, we will be looking at the importance and uses of money.

PE this half term will be on Tuesday (outdoor) and Thursday (indoor) we will be focusing on dance and outdoor activities. Please ensure your child has their full kit in school. Kits will then be sent home at the end of half term to be washed.

In KS1 we have three different books that are sent home.

Reading for Pleasure books – these are sent home on Monday and returned on Friday. These are books that are to be shared as a family, at bed time, before tea or just snuggled up on the sofa.

RWI books – these are sent home on Monday and returned on Friday. These are phonetically plausible books that are chosen specific in line with your child’s phonic knowledge. Once your child has completed the programme they will no longer bring one of these books home.

Phonetically decodable or banded reading books – these are changed every Tuesday and Friday. Don’t worry about reading a full book each day, reading a couple of pages each day will be great. Please just make a note of which page you have read up to.

Please remember to read with your child as often as possible. School planners are checked daily for any messages.

In addition to reading daily, we have Rainbow Challenges for KS1. These are challenges set for each half term. The PURPLE Rainbow Challenge has six different activities for you to complete before May half term. Please take pictures of you completing each activity or of the completed activities and add it onto School Spider (Rainbow Challenges PURPLE Summer 2). If you have completed most of these challenges before half term, you will earn your PURPLE Rainbow Certificate.

If you ever have any concerns or want to discuss something, please make a note in your child’s planner that you would like to speak to me or email the school office and I will get back to you ASAP.
