Year 5 - Mrs Wallace 2025 - 2026

Mrs Speed

Hello! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas break and are feeling refreshed and ready to head into 2026 with lots of enthusiasm.

I would like to start by saying a huge thank you to both the children and parents for such a fabulous first term. It has been a pleasure getting to know the class and I am really looking forward to continuing our learning journey together as we move into Spring 1.

This term, we will continue to focus on becoming creative, independent learners who are confident to share ideas and challenge themselves. Supporting the class alongside me will be Mrs Christian and Miss Donnellan. We will also be joined by mrs Gargan, who will cover PPA for a short period of time on a Monday morning and all of Wednesday morning. All the adults are very much looking forward to supporting the children and being part of their year 5 journey.

Spring 1 is full of exciting learning opportunities. In English, we will be finishing Beowulf before moving on to Kai and the Monkey King. In Guided Reading, we will be immersing ourselves in the world of Beetle Boy. In Maths, we will complete our work on multiplication and division before moving on to fractions, decimals and percentages. Our wider curriculum will also be busy and engaging. In Geography, we will be learning all about land use and settlements, while in History we will be exploring life in the stone age.

Its shaping up to be a fantastic term and we can't wait to see the progress the children continue to make as we begin the new year together,

Snacks and Toast
Children can have a healthy snack or toast at break time. Toast can be paid for via the ParentPay app.

Stationery
Children do not need to bring in their own stationery as this is all provided by the school. Just remember to bring in planners and reading books each day.

Daily Routine

  • Gates open at 8:40am and the playground door opens at 8:45am.
  • Registration is at 8:50am, where children also take part in a Start of the Day Activity (SODA), which is linked to learning and helps settle the children.

I am really looking forward to working with this class and creating a fun, engaging, and fulfilling learning environment for all the children this year.
