Year 6 - Mrs Andrews 2025 - 2026

Mrs Andrews

Spring Term

As we move further through our final year at primary school, we continue to focus on getting ourselves 'high school ready' by learning to be increasingly independent and organised. This includes remembering our homework and organising our own belongings and resources.

Our teachers, Mrs Andrews and Mrs Gargan will continue to help us with our learning, alongside our learning assistant, Miss Jackson. Mrs Batson will also be teaching us each tuesday afternoon.

In Spring term, we will continue to work hard in all of our lessons. In english, we will complete pieces of writing around the book, ‘The Selfish Giant' by Oscar Wilde. In guided reading, we will study ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ (the abridged version for younger children) and poems by Ted Hughes. In maths we will complete units on fractions, decimals and percentages. In history, with Mrs Gargan, we will learn about the Ancient Shang Dynasty before moving onto World War I. In geography, also with Mrs Gargan, we will continue  to learn about Biomes / vegetation belts / map work  and then move onto rivers and the water cycle. In PE we will complete units on games and dance. PSHE will focus on ‘physical and mental well-being’ and ‘safe relationships’. In science, with Mrs Batson, we will complete units on animals including humans’. In computing we will complete units on  ‘programming’ and then ‘data and information’.

We also have our usual art and DT weeks.

Homework will look a little different now as we start to think about becoming more responsible for what we learn at home. Children will have a folder to keep all of their homework in and a timetable to follow so they get used to how homework might change when they get to high school.

Year 6 routines:

  • PE Days: Thursday and Friday
  • Please put names inside all clothing and shoes
  • Children will take 2 reading books home- one is linked to their level of development and the other is a reading for pleasure book. Books can only be changed when they have been read and a parent has signed the planner. Please bring books in every day so that children can read in school and to an adult when appropriate.
  • Please sign your child’s planner at the end of every week. This will be checked each Monday morning.
  • Homework will be set on different days each week and brought back in according to a set timetable which children will have in their planner.
  • Spellings are on the school website. They will be assessed each Friday.
  • Water bottles must be brought to school each day in a spill proof container
  • Healthy snack- fruit or toast only for break time (toast paid for via parent pay)
  • School gates open at 8:40 and playground door at 8:45. Registration is at 8:50am. From 8:50-9:00, children complete start of day activities (SODA) linked to their learning and to settle them into the day.
